It’s my Birthday Month! And I’m taking advantage of all the birthday deals available to me by attempting to get one birthday deal every day. Please read more about my mission in my “About” page. On we go!!
Business: ComedySportz Portland
Offer: Complimentary admission for two to see any regularly-scheduled ComedySportz match
Via: Online tickets
This is the second year I’ve redeemed my free show tickets to ComedySportz. If you are familiar with the ABC show “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” then you’ll understand what this show is about. In a nutshell, there are two teams of improv performers that play improv games with the help of audience suggestions. It’s a hoot and a holler and family friendly for everyone, with the show clocking in at just under two hours (including a ten-minute “halftime” intermission). Shows run every Friday and Saturday night at their location adjacent to the Oregon Jewish Museum at NW 20th Avenue & Kearney Street.
Doors open up at 7:30pm and the show gets underway at 8:00pm. Seats are reserved, so we arrived about ten minutes til’ eight and our seats were waiting for us. As a birthday guest, you’ll get your name up on the TV monitors, you’ll get recognized by the performers (you just stand up along with the other birthday celebrants), and they’ll also sing you a short happy birthday song. Do they force you to come up on stage? No, so if you are afraid that you’ll be singled out as a birthday celebrant and be forced to go onto the stage, don’t fret! They actually ask for willing volunteers at three different segments during the show, so if you don’t feel like participating, then don’t raise your hand. Easy!
This is a great venue and a great value, as tickets are normally $15 a pop. Reservations are by phone or online — just provide the special birthday code that you received via email, and your two tickets are free. Then, when you check in at the entrance, you’ll just have to provide your name and ID. If you have a bigger group of friends or family or coworkers that you want to take with you, there is a group rate for ten tickets or more at 20% off. As an added bonus, they usually have a 10:00pm “PG-18” improv show that lasts for about half an hour. This show is free to those that stick around from the earlier show, otherwise it is just a small $5.00 admission fee for those coming in from the outside. ComedySportz Portland offers these free tickets as a way to drive eyeballs to their Facebook page and to increase audience numbers, so do “Like” their Facebook page when you sign up. Birthdays are about celebrations and laughter — this free birthday deal will not disappoint!
