Business:  Ruby Tuesday
Offer:  One free burger (up to $9)
Via:  Email message and printable coupon from So Connected club

There’s only one Ruby Tuesday restaurant in the Portland area, and one more a little bit southwest on the way to the coast in McMinnville.  They have a pretty nice birthday offer however, good for one free burger from their menu (up to $9).  Ruby Tuesday is a “Casual American” dining spot that is a step up from a Shari’s and along the lines of a Chili’s.  Known for their burgers, they also feature pastas, seafood, chicken, steaks and other dishes for the American palate.  What I enjoy most is the fact that they have a pretty decent salad bar that costs just another $3 or so to add on to your meal.

My wife and I went in on a busy Friday night and were able to find a spot in the bar.  I showed our server my birthday coupon and she said that she would take it later after we were done eating.  The menu features three types of burgers — the classics, the upgraded ‘Prime’ beef, and the pretzel bun burgers.  I was curious about those pretzel buns, so I went ahead and ordered the Bacon Cheese Pretzel Burger.  At $10.99, it was more than the $9 allowed, but the restaurant will simply charge the difference in price.

While we waited for our food, we received a complimentary appetizer plate of their garlic cheese biscuits.  Since my wife is gluten free, all the biscuits for me!  Our dinner orders came shortly thereafter, and while I did enjoy my pretzel burger, after having a bite of my wife’s petite sirloin steak, I wanted to trade.  Alas, I can’t get everything on my birthday, so I savored that single morsel and went back to my burger and fries.  I actually only ate half of the pretzel burger because I was already pretty full from those biscuits and French fries — it was a good choice that I declined to add the salad bar this time around, because I might not have had any room for any of my burger.  No surprise here, but we declined the dessert menu because we were already pretty full.  The server took the coupon and returned with the check minus $9.

Overall the Ruby Tuesday birthday offer is a great deal because you have a lot of options for a burger and you are not required to purchase another entree or a drink to use the coupon.  This is actually an improvement because in years past they only offered a small birthday dessert for one and you had to purchase an adult entree.  So win-win for us birthday folk!  This is a definite treat — it might be a little hard to get out to a Ruby Tuesday, but the food quality and atmosphere should make it worth the drive to celebrate your birthday with a free burger.  The coupon is valid one week before and one week after your birthday.
