Day 25: Cinnabon

It’s my Birthday Month!  And I’m taking advantage of all the birthday deals available to me by attempting to get one birthday deal every day.  Please read more about my mission in my “About” page.  On we go!!

Day:  25cinnabon1
Business:  Cinnabon
Offer:  Free MochaLatta Chill
Via:  Printed email message from Club Cinnabon

Mmmm, Cinnabon cinnamon rolls!  It takes a lot of willpower to bypass the sights and smells of fresh cinnamon rolls, especially when employees are giving out free samples of bite-sized pieces.  One little taste is not enough, as I usually end up buying a mini roll.  Okay, I can’t lie — the regular sized roll is just another dollar more, so I spring for that one instead.  As part of the free loyalty program, you would think that “Club Cinnabon” would give out a free cinnamon roll or maybe some cinnamon roll bites.  But no, that would be too easy.  Instead, they offer up a free MochaLatta Chill, a pre-made drink comprised of coffee and chocolate syrup. Pretty smart those Cinnabon folks — for although the offer is completely free with no strings attached, who could just get the drink and no cinnamon roll?  It’s like peanut butter and jelly, can’t have one without the other!

Well, in my case I had already eaten and just happened to be near the Cinnabon so I already had my mind set on just the drink treat.  Fortunately the store did not have any cinnamon roll samples to give away, otherwise I probably would have broken down and bought one.  As it is, I stepped up to the register and presented a printed copy of the email.  The cashier looked it over and asked to see my ID.  I gave it to him and after a quick glance, he returned it to me and commenced to make the MochaLatta Chill.  He grabbed a 16 oz. plastic cup and scooped in some ice cubes, then filled it 3/4 of the way up from the large drink dispenser.  He finished off the drink with some whipped cream from an aerosol can, slapped the lid on and handed me the sweet concoction.

I walked away and had a few sips.  And a few sips more.  And that was about it.  Honestly, it wasn’t that good.  It wasn’t cold enough, and it was a strange coffee/chocolate sweetness that just didn’t work for me.  I probably had more of the whipped cream than I did the actual drink, since that’s what I enjoyed most.  After 10 minutes of slowly nursing the MochaLatta Chill (I figured that maybe it would grow on me), I tossed it.  Just wasn’t for me, and I will probably take a pass if it is offered again next year.  Or maybe I really did need to buy the cinnamon roll to go with it, maybe that is the secret.

There are four Cinnabon locations in the Portland – Vancouver area, and they are all located in shopping malls, which is a good thing because the birthday offer specifies that it can only be redeemed in mall-based locations.  Good news is that there are other Cinnabons in other states, so you could use the freebie while traveling somewhere else.  The birthday offer is emailed to you on your actual birthday and then you’ll have ten days to use it.  Birthday cheers to you!
